Originally called Jazzland until Six Flags took over in 2002. In 2005 hurricane Katrina unleashed all her destructive fury on the Gulf coast. Following the collapse of the levee’s in the 9th ward and the over flow from lake Pontchartrain the park sat submerged in 4-7 ft of brackish, corrosive water for over a month. 80% of all building were considered destroyed and what was left was unsafe and unrecoverable. What’s left of the abandoned park provides us with a surreal and haunting image. Spreepark PlanterWald: Many deteriorating theme parks are hidden behind security barriers, or camouflaged with faux facades in an effort to pretend that they do not exist. But this particularly fantastic place, Spreepark PlanterWald, is "hidden in plain view". It is located smack in the middle of a major European city - Berlin - close to the much-visited Treptower Park.
