Gingerbread Hamantashen with Spiced Apple Filling

1 1/2 tsp Ginger, ground


1 Egg, large


8 tbsp Margarine, unsalted
6 tbsp Margarine
2/3 cup Unsulfured molasses

Baking & Spices

1 cup All purpose flour plus more fore dusting
1/2 tsp Allspice, ground
1 tsp Baking soda
1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed light
1/4 cup Brown sugar, packed
3/4 tsp Cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp Cloves, ground
1/4 tsp Freshly milled black pepper
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 Vanilla bean
1/4 cup Vegetable shortening
2 cups Whole wheat flour


3 Large or 4 medium apples, peeled, cored and cut into eighths
