Wool twill riding habit with breeches, by Bonwit Teller & Co., American (New York), c. 1915. Breeches permitted women to ride astride rather than side-saddle, as they had done for centuries. At first, only young girls were permitted to ride astride in breeches, but by the 1920s the new outfit and method were more widely accepted for adult women too.

In this case, vintage is NOT better! A Gibson Girl in her corset in the early 1900s. HOW?! Those poor women!
A Gibson Girl in her corset in the early 1900s - Unbelievable...and a bit creepy! Tiny wastes were highly desirable in Victorian times. The woman's health and well-being did not seem to be of concern. This ghastly tiny "wasp waist" no doubt was the result of a life-long practice of "training" corsets to make the waist progressively smaller over time.

The LBD, Coco Chanel, 1926 It is now considered the epitome of classic good taste. But when Vogue published an image of Coco Chanel’s radically simple “little black dress” in 1926, the style was derided by Paul Poiret as “poverty deluxe.” Vogue predicted that the plain, straight-lined dress would be “the frock that all the world will wear.”

FLAPPER GIRLS! We reach the 1920s to find a more risqué version of women. With a shorter dress & more bling it was like a new found confidence girls could wear! The only layering these women did was diamonds on pearls on feather boas! Although flapper dresses are no longer worn, the short style is still in tact for "cocktail attire".
