Kansas Underground Salt Museum, Hutchinson, Kanas. The mine is one of 16 salt mines in the U.S. Located 650 feet below the surface is a enormous cavern that contains the salt deposits that were formed more than 280 million years ago. It is the only salt mine in the Western Hemisphere open to the public.

The Wieliczka Salt Mines date from the 13th century and were mined up until the 20th. The salt mine is a popular day trip from Krakow.
