25 Brightly Painted Furniture Ideas
Furniture Makeovers Old entertainment armoire transformed into a stylish home office! *They replaced the upper pullout shelf with a fixed painted plywood shelf hung on wooden brackets, which we screwed directly into the armoire's back wall. *They cut Homasote boards (recycled fiberboards soft enough to sink pushpins into) to fit the back and the side door panels and covered them in fabric secured with a staple gun. Small screw hooks hold each panel in place; you can also simply screw the panels to the corners. *They swapped out dated brass hardware for pretty (and inexpensive) glass knobs. The original TV shelf became a functional slideout work surface. To make it movable, they screwed two drawer glides (available at hardware stores) into the top of the base about 6 inches in from the sides and then set the shelf into the glides. Knobs make it easy to pull the shelf out and push it back in. Old dresser transformed into a chic sideboard with plenty of storage! *They gave the whole piece a light sanding, a coat of primer, and two coats of semigloss latex paint in a pale blue shade on the outside and a deeper blue inside for contrast. *To dress up the doors, they picked out a pair of modern nickel pulls. Out-dated side table with stone top transformed into a bright and cheerful accent piece! *First they removed the hardware and stone top, sanded the table all over, and applied a coat of primer. *Then they gave it two coats of semigloss latex paint in a lively citrus hue. *For a pull, they threaded a length of cord through the existing hardware holes, knotted the cord on the inside and trimmed the ends. *They cut a length of seagrass wallpaper to fit the inset and topped it with a pane of 1/4-inch glass. Switch the paper to change the look.

diy project: brenna’s paper capiz shell chandelier - I love this and another rectangle one I found on-line - use fishing line or jewelry jump rings instead of ribbon. Melt wax paper layers for faux Capiz shells (use only top brand wax paper for melting - cheap off-brands won't melt together), then cut circles from melted wax paper - tutorial and reader comments are very helpful. Visit site for tut.
Wax paper chandelier, great DIY project with the kids and could be fun using a variation of colors.
DIY Lamp (with wax paper!) I would so do this.
Homemade capiz chandelier... I prefer them sewn, but it's good to see the original instructions here. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Materials: - hanging planter basket - white spray paint - ribbon - scissors - 1-2 rolls wax paper - 2 big pieces of parchment paper - iron - hot glue gun & glue sticks - circle cutter (i didn’t have any luck with a “punch”) - cutting mat Instructions: 1. spray paint your planter basket. let dry. 2. start making the capiz shells. lay out the two pieces of parchment paper on your ironing board or on a clean dish towel on the floor or table. (if you use your floor or table, just make sure it wont be damaged by the heat of the iron) 3. cut three pieces of wax paper about the same length. mine were about 18”. sandwich the three pieces of wax paper between the parchment paper. the parchment paper allows the wax to stay within the layers of paper, helps it stick together, and gives the wax paper a smooth finished surface. 4. iron the paper sandwich on a low setting. remove the layered wax paper from between the parchment, and repeat. 5. set the circle cutter to cut 2 ½ inch circles. with the circle cutter, cut circles from the layered wax paper on your cutting mat. it helps to tape the wax paper down to the mat. 6. cut ribbon pieces and attach the ribbon to the planter basket. the length of the ribbon will depend on the method of attachment to the basket… (single or double strand). my lengths were between 7 (single) and 16 inches (doubled). you can attach them to the basket either by hot gluing the end of a single strand to the basket wire, or by folding the ribbon in half, and creating a knot over the wire. start at the bottom, and work your way up. 7. once you finish one tier of ribbon, attach the capiz shells to the ribbon with a tiny dot of hot glue near the top of each shell. i alternated two and three shells on each ribbon and only attached shells to every other ribbon. overlap the shells by about ¼”. finish an entire lower tier, then move on to the next higher tier. 8. once you cover the hanging basket you are done! you can attach a simple bulb of you want this to be a source of light. hang in your desired location, stand back and admire. DIY Paper chandelier - 20 DIY Chandeliers Using Vintage Things Very cute. Could use this idea for a regular lamp shade too.
pottery barn recipe lamp shade knockoff (something like this would be a great way to show off christmas cards). Use a quilting hoop, paper clips and twine.
I saw a light fixture like this only they used book pages out of old books instead of recipes....Cool!
paper Chandelier- I saw this in Pottery Barn's catalog, but when I went back to look it was gone. :-( I bought some clips from IKEA thinking I could use them, now I have a photo of the original. Link doesn't show photo any longer.
Paper chandelier: How neat is this? I can see this being fun for Christmas cards, or pictures, or birthdays, or just notes...
Bicycle wheel and book pages create a beautiful light fixture. Gorgeous. @Amber Foster I see a lamp in your future!
Bookpage Lamp. What a wonderful idea.
Today I am inspired by the written word. I adore books. Old books. New books. Dog eared, tea stained, hard covered and soft books. So why not use them in decorating? Have you done this before? What do you think of book pages as wall paper? Personally I think it's really pretty, but may be best used in smaller spaces. A small bathroom space maybe? www.writtenword.com plakuvent.blogspot.com I LOVE this lampshade idea. The soft light created by the slightly yellowing pages is particularly nice. www.writtenword.com This little painting over pages, ledgers and music paper is lovely and would be a simple way to incorporate the written word into your home in small doses. *source unknown (please message me if you know and I will credit accordingly) Why not make use of these great free printable music sheets printable vintage music sheets or these pretty printable ledgers printable vintage ledger pages I hope you can all have some fun with these lovely ideas. I know I will, Lauren
Alright, boys and girls. I've made you wait long enough. Great job on the pop quiz, by the way! (A shiny gold star to each of you that helped out this stumped blogger, plus an extra one for being so patient!) The majority of you want to hear more about the awesome chandelier, so here it goes. Way back in February, Kevin and I were on the hunt for the perfect light fixture for our dining room. The one that the house came with when we bought it (picture golden sculpted roses creeping up from the inside of a dingy frosted glass bowl... very 80's chic) was much too small for the space, hung about 10 feet away from where our table sits, and is definitely not our style. Before: Misplaced, mismatched lamp (plus a peek at our painted cabinets) With two fistsful of Pottery Barn gift cards in hand, we agreed to focused our initial search on the PB offerings and hope for the best. As with every visit to their website, I headed straight for the sale page. To my surprise, I found something that immediately caught my eye: the Wakefield Chandelier. Source Source The three-tiered iron chandelier struck me as a really cool focal piece for our spacious dining room area. I'd certainly never seen any thing like it before. I loved the soft glow of the aged book pages. I saw its potential as a dynamic display that we could change on a whim. Family photos, genealogy charts, Christmas cards... really, anything that fits in a bulldog clip is game! But then I got to wondering: Is it too different? Would it get too dusty? Would we soon regret it? After a few minutes of looking at the other offerings under Lighting, I cast those doubts aside, called Kevin into the room and showed him my find. "Yes! Let's get it!" Source With a few keystrokes, the Wakefield was ours. I consider it a major score, since we got it on final clearance for $179.99 (reg. $300), with free shipping! Plus, since it only used up a tiny chunk of our gift card cache, we could keep an eye out for other great pieces to cozy up our home with. Kev and I are now in the process of scouring Ebay and a few specialty sites, building a collection of vintage postcards that hold a special significance for us. You can see some of them in the first photo above. Care to take a guess as to what they all have in common? What kinds of items would you display on the Wakefield? I'd love to hear them!
