oh my! I love the floor idea for dogs! Stones can hurt paws, grass gets wripped up, fake grass can cause burns, but soft sanded natural wood could give them grip. Even better, so easy to replace!

Basement columns. Use wood and weather them different natural hues. Leave gaps between to let light through. Make to look like stacked stone.
