A lesson on labeling started with a definition of what a label is, followed by labeling the parts of a teddy bear (ear, head, arm, etc.).  Then the students were given post-it notes to label items all over the classroom (they could just write the first letter, since they're kinders).  They ended up labeling the teacher!  :o)  Lots of great writing going on!

I love this! It is so important for students to see models! Using a rubric scale to compare weak and strong writing models is a great way for students to begin to reflect on their own writing!
