Cool Bulletin Board idea to "spotlight" a student or famous person. I would do both. Maybe every week a different actor, playwright, designer, etc to research to extra credit or a weekly report, and every now and then a student, to make them feel special having been up on the same wall as a big name.

Students write their names and draw a self-portrait each month. Collect and put into a book format at the end of the school year to show growth. Free

We have one I spray painted black then had all the students write their favorite verb in white paint. Turned out so cool and I didn't have to reteach verbs once!

Reading Theme Chair. WOW! I think I'm going to make a writing one for students to share thier writing!

Presidents day- Abe Lincoln was 6'4". Students can see how tall they were compared to him. Would be a great introduction into measurement.

I've got to do this next year New Student Pack. Make 5 extra at the beginning of the year and include: the name tag, lunch number, birthday candle for our display, labels for folders, desk plates, spelling folders, take-home folders, notebooks, beginning of the year information notes, brochure about our classroom, etc.

download star student poster- wish the family area was just blank lines (for all of my kids w/ step families and grandparent custody situations)

Such a cool idea! This will help each student feel important, needed, and supported in the classroom. I would maybe allow other students to write complements for their peers as well (but make sure that everyone is included, not just a few people). This can also help to create great bonds between students and teachers. Everyone wants to feel important!

Another way to display student work, with the ability for them to change it out on their own...cheaper than clipboards: clothes pins!

Celebrity of the Week -- start at the beginning of the year and go through everyone in the class. New twist on an old idea.
