Scott Mattlin (American): title unknown [woman dressing in white ball gown], 1955; oils on canvas. Impressionist American painter. "Love the texture the artist has built into the dress with the heavy use of white paint; yet, he has maintained the transparency of the fabric, especially in the sleeves... a wonderfully crisp pallette!" ~js

This painting by Scott Mattlin is astonishing. The expression of the colors and the elastic oil paint came to the perfect expression of a portrait of a ballet dancer from Nicole Stevens.

What makes this work, besides the tight color relationship in the blues, is the outlining of the multiple layers. This could be a handsome project for very young children if you control the palette when they create the papers.

I miss ballet....falling on my ass during every training class....sowing & resowing my pointe shoes....numb toes....Yup, still miss it ♥

Ballet Dancer Ok just look at her feet!!!!!!!!!!! Theyre amazing....I'm wishing I could have them...I will prob never have them....

Pose. Scott Mattlin (American, 1955-). Oil. Mattlin paints the private world to which he bears witness, an intimate moment, a private view, a glimpse into the solitary reverie of a ballet dancer… Mattlin’s choice of subject matter, his extemporaneous composition, and the juxtaposition of light and shadow – all evoke a powerful old world feel, yet with an irresistible modern edge.

“Dance as though no one is watching you. Love as though you have never been hurt before. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though heaven is on earth.”

Illustration by MONICA RAMOS- I think this would just work brilliantly for packaging for bath soap

to anyone that says dance isn't work and isn't hard.. please humor me and do this one time. Thanks.
