In Southwestern Creation Lore, Spider Woman weaves the world into being. One of my favourite stories by author and artist, Meinrad Craighead, is about her mother sitting at the kitchen table in the evenings, sewing as her children drew pictures. Meinrad thought of her mother as Spider Woman, stitching her family together and re-membering them when they were feeling lost.

I will admit that their webs are pretty to look at when they're wet...just to look at for a second and then run like crazy in the opposite direction!!
