Ulysses S. Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) Commander in the American Civil War. Under Grant, the Union Army defeated the Confederate military; the war, & secession, ended with the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox. Grant gave generous terms; Confederate troops surrendered their weapons & were allowed to return to their homes, with their mounts, on the condition that they would not take up arms against the U.S. Within a few weeks the Civil War was over.
Wonderful picture of Civil War soldier of the Union army standing in front of painted backdrop representing a military encampment.
