Samuel Houston was born on March near Lexington, Virginia. From 1813 to he fought in the Creek War and was wounded at Horsesh.

March 2, 1863 the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed.  It was quickly drafted by George C. Childress, Edward Conrad, James Gaines, Bailey Hardeman, and Collin McKinney.  The battle at the Alamo was already taking place during this time.  Fifty-nine delegates signed this document to separate from Mexico and become the Republic of Texas.
