Priory d’ Orsan: "This is the amazing cloister with the “Architecture” all in clipped hornbeam. The four quadrants are planted with grapes."
Inspired by the "peep hole" idea as a backdrop to a bench seat. Would be good for the sauna privacy screen, or fronting the garden area that we grow hops on!
Prieuré d’Orsan: "The Berry Path...silk-like lawn is flanked...by small enclosures...double row of tall and low hedges is planted with apple/pear trained trees and hornbeams acting as boundary walls....expert training and pleaching of all manners of fruits...All the familiar currants and berries can be found in great abundance: raspberries trained on poles in V-shaped rows; gooseberries grown in fans; black, red and white currants trained on diamond lattices; blackberries, strawberries…"
Prieuré d’Orsan: Maze: "The high concentric hedges are of pleached plums and gages. On each side of the paths are beds of pears, quinces, grapes and herbs with flower sprinkled among them: sweet peas, nasturtiums, cosmos and a few giants sunflowers. Rhubarb is encouraged upwards in bottomless cylindrical baskets woven from thick lengths of vine and clematis, another nice way of recycling pruning."
