Worth Reading, Girl, Louisa, Books Worth, Children, Favorite Books, Women
Louisa M. Alcott: Little Women _ This is one of my favorite books of all time, and one of the first books I remember my mother reading to me. I identified strongly with Jo, who is strong, creative, and independent. I totally despised Amy, who is superficial, fussy, and precious. Still, when I read it, I want the best for Beth and am in awe of the calm that Marmy and Meg share.
book cover: Little Women by Louise May Alcott ... depicts mother Marmee reading to daughters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy
we find ourselves continually reaching for Little Women to revisit one of our first fictional loves, and one of our first heartaches. Something about Jo's independence, Laurie's broken heart, and the bond of the sisters keeps this one timeless. Debate is still out about Little Men and Jo's Boys. Louisa May Alcott, Little Men/Little Women Boxed Set
“Little Women” in 1868-69 by Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888). The book was written in the Alcott family home, Concord, Massachussets. The novel follows the lives of four sisters and is loosely based on the author’s childhood experiences. The work was a fiction novel for girls that veered from the normal writings for children, has three major themes: domesticity, work, and true love. Little Women was one of the most influential novels, creating a new form, which is a unique model.

The Giving Tree Shel Silverstein - My favorite book ever!!! I love reading this with Katie.
The Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein In Silverstein’s most famous work, a tree and a boy grow old together, the tree giving all she has to offer and only delighting in the boy’s happiness, the boy taking and taking until there’s nothing left but a stump. Life Lesson: When we were kids, we thought this was a story about idiot compassion. Now, it just makes us feel grateful to our parents. One of my favorite books as a child. Now I appreciate it even more.

50th Anniversary Edition of Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh | Between the Covers
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh: A mother of five, an acclaimed writer and a pioneering aviator, Lindbergh casts an unsentimental eye on the trappings of modernity that threaten to overwhelm us: the time-saving gadgets that complicate rather than simplify, the multiple commitments that take us from our families. And by recording her thoughts during a brief escape from everyday demands, she helps readers find a space for contemplation and creativity within their own lives.

GEORGIA: "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell. Mitchell's 1936 classic love story, set in the South during the Civil War and its aftermath, introduced the world to Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler. O'Hara, the young spoiled daughter of a plantation owner, and her rogue star-crossed lover are torn apart and reunited through the tragedies and comedies of the human existence.

Gone with the Wind, 75th Anniversary Edition. Well, of course you have to read this. Even though it's severely out of date and in bad taste on a lot of things, it's still an excellent read. Much more detail than the movie. And more maturity.
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell This is probably the first novel I read that was over 1000 pages and I remember devouring it over two days, unable to put it down. I also reread it as a teenager more than once, reliving the experience of seeing the movie at Radio City Music Hall.

Gone With the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell [The movie was on t.v. the summer before I started 8th grade. I wasn't allowed to watch it so I checked the book out of the library and read it cover to cover in 3 days. My 8th grade teacher didn't believe that I had read it, she thought I had just watched the movie, and questioned me thoroughly. She finally believed me after contacting my parents. I won the reading award at the end of the school year.]

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. My book. My all time favorite book as a kid.
THE BOOK that EVERY child should have read to them!! I read this to my children when they were small (4 kids ages 2-7). We read two chapters a night (even though they would BEG me to read "just one more chapter"). I laughed out loud while reading this....and found myself trying to read through a haze of tears. It is just a beautiful story about a boy and his dogs. Very touching...and so worth reading over and over again. (All of my children have re-read this story on their own...several times).
Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This one really is my all time favorite.
Need to read it again.
