Pizzelle Waffle Cookies Make homemade caramel, fill two cookies with them and its a tasty treat. Even better if set on top of a hot cup of coffee, so the steam warms the caramel a little bit!

My mom's recipe is: 12 large eggs (room temperature); 1 1/4 cups Crisco (measure then melt and cool to touch); 2 cups sugar; 3 teaspoons vanilla; 3 cups flour; pinch of salt. Beat eggs well. Add sugar, vanilla, salt, and cooled Crisco - beating as you add. Add flour. Spoon by teaspoon onto iron. Pitzzelle is ready when lightly browned.

The pizzelle (peets-TSEH-leh), a crisp waffle cookie, is one of the oldest cookie recipes known. These large crisp Italian cookies are made with a pizzelle iron.

Pizelle: Italian waffle cookies. Oh, I really want to make these. Aren't they pretty? Simple ingredients. Crisp but tender with flavors of butter and vanilla. Now, please?! I must find a Pizelle baker.

Italian Pizzele Waffle Cookies // Pizzelles are traditional Italian waffle cookies often vanilla, anise, or lemon zest. Pizzelle are popular during holidays and often found alongside other traditional Italian pastries such as cannoli. The cookie dough or batter is put into a handheld pizzelle iron or electric press. Pizzelle, while still warm, can also be rolled using a wooden dowel to create cannoli shells and cones. Delizioso! | pin @ Pizzele Italian Waffle Cookies
