By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the US and in much of Europe, although it has not proven any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Any psychoactive properties attributed to absinthe, apart from that of the alcohol, seem to have been exaggerated. A revival of absinthe began in the 1990s and now nearly 200 brands are produced in France, Switzerland, the US, and the Czech Republic. Popular brands today include Doubs, Akveld’s, Pernod, Le Tourment Vert, Kubler, St George, and Lucid.
