you need 50 squares of the white background, 20 squares of grey, 10 squares each of orange, yellow and mid-yellow prints. It works best if each square is a different print. For the large original quilt, I started with 10-inch squares, the middle one uses 8-inch squares and the small one 6-inch squares. Each block ends up an inch shorted due to the seams. Okay, I usually zero in on piecing, but the quilting on this is REALLY cool. I love this idea of only quilting in the white/negative areas... it adds so much texture by making the colored squares "puffy!"
