Taken by my Great Uncle during World War Two. This was taken from a gunners position on top of the aircraft. This photo was taken after a flack attack from German ground troops. I have come to find out that there are not many photos left of this squadron and that not many were taken. Sadly my Great Uncle has passed away and his wife and his brother gave me permission to share this photo with A. net. USA - Air Force Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress (299P) In Flight Germany, 1943
Loring Air Force Base (originally called the Caribou Air Force Station) - Limestone ME "The Moose is Loose" was echoed throughout the base & it became Loring's slogan. Moose love Loring & one story from the 1970's tells of a moose wandering into the "old hospital" ER to take a look around. This sign greets you after entering West Gate & is in front of where the 2 elementary schools stood.
