"Florida During World War II." This classroom collection from Florida Memory has photos and documents, and a brief history of Florida's role in World War II. In short, "Few states were as directly affected by the war as Florida. Over a quarter of a million Floridians volunteered or were drafted into the military. Dozens of military bases were established or expanded in the state. Agriculture was Florida's primary economic contribution to the war effort..."
Northrop BT-1s over Miami in 1939. The BT-1 was a hastily (and poorly) designed aircraft meant for carrier deployment. 54 were ordered and served aboard the USS Yorktown and Enterprise. However, a tendency to roll and poor handling at low speeds resulted in several crashes. Obviously, the BT-1 never took off (groan) as a viable carrier based airplane.

An absolutely fantastic shot of one of the four Focke–Wulf Fw 190s of 1426 Enemy Aircraft Flight, winging over and diving for the English countryside. The underside of the Fw 190 would have been bright yellow, so this would have been a really spectacular image had it been in colour. Photo: RAF

German Henschel Hs 123 close support - World War II.Began to equip operational squadrons in summer 1936.Shown that Hs 123 could pull out of near vertical dives. Was well liked because could deliver payload with extremely good accuracy & take a lot of punishment. Some in tmilitary wanted to put the Hs 123 back into production during 1943.Only 1 Gruppe had Hs 123 during invasion of Poland. Was such a success in Poland & France that additional Gruppe were formed from retired aircraft.
