The Casual Vacancy. I think I might just read this one. Her first adult novel.
I didnt care for it also, I had a hard time finishing it
I tried to read it but I couldn't finish. I think it's a hard read for Americans because we don't understand the complexities of rural English society. Try The Cookoo's Calling, she wrote it under a pseudonym it's more like Harry Potter in its style.
Read most of Cuckoo's Calling and it struck me as a somewhat typical crime murder mystery. She's starting to write more at www.pottermore.com.
I haven't read many crime novels in my time outside of Agatha Christie's works, so I have little to compare it to.
