After a lot of research I became aware of a mapping technique called Radial Flow Maps through a post on the ArcGIS blog. The concept of Radial Flow Maps is relatively simple: as long as you have the latitude and longitude for your start and end points you can have ArcMap connect these points via the XY to Line Tool. In essence you could use this technique to map out the ‘movements’ of people. I decided to try it out on a data set from the World Bank and here is a map I made of the results.
