Why go to Confession: it teaches us to TRULY be kind-- to be a merciful lover of the Truth, which can only happen if we are humble enough to receive the gift of God's forgiveness and mercy so that we can pass it on to others. There are all sorts of ways in which being "nice" is not kind at all, because it enables untruth and judgment when it excuses itself from what's truly right and just: anyone who has ever fallen afoul of a clique knows this.
