Glowing Trails of Light: Light Painting With Fireflies --- Slow-shutter and multi-exposure composite photos of fireflies floating about in their nightly mating ritual dances. Photographer Tsuneaki Hiramatsu has been taking these photos in Japan, where the fireflies come out to mate after thunderstorms have passed through the region. The natural fluorescent glow of the fireflies seems simultaneously erratic yet purposeful, and its an unexpected depiction of a familiar summer evening.

"Here come real stars to fill the upper skies, And here on earth come emulating flies, That though they never equal stars in size, (And they were never really stars at heart) Achieve at times a very star-like start. Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.” ― Robert Frost, The Poetry of Robert Frost
