Is that the same one that was in Indiana Jones 3? I assumed it was a stage. Wow! That's incredible. Who looks at a flat stone face and decides to carve something like that? They don't make 'em like that, anymore.

It BEGS the questions why? Why did they chose to carve all of this into solid living rock?

To get the first glimpse of Petra from the back of a horse or a camel, just like all the other travellers through the ages did. "It seems no work of Man's creative hand, by labour wrought as wavering fancy planned; But from the rock as if by magic grown, eternal, silent, beautiful, alone! - John William Burgon.

Felt fortunate to go with a group of friends three years ago to Jordan and Israel. I had always wanted to go to Petra (southern Jordan)...and had been looking at a calendar on my wall for some time of it!

During my year in Jordan I managed three trips to Petra, the last being after it snowed. The day was crisp and clear, the tourists few....heavenly!

Petra, Jordan. The historical and architectural significance of this place is incredible! Besides, there's nothing I'd love better than a horseback journey through a Middle Eastern canyon.

One of the seven wonders of the world - Petra, Jordan - The Last Crusade!

Petra, Jordan This place is just as amazing as it looks like it would be from the photo. No, more amazing.

al khazneh, or the treasury, at petra, jordan. is this carved *directly out of the surrounding stone landscape*??? - or constructed in a more standard (although still very challenging) way?

Not my post, but I can't disagree!! "Ride on horseback to visit the ancient wonder of Petra in Jordan. Not successfully ridden a horse since 1995 and quite a lot of my motivation comes from the Indiana Jones film but, ye know, it would be cool."

Petra, Jordan... One day i shall be like indiana jones and find the knight and be a part of the last crusade... like a boss
