A fun note writing activity with students! During the month of February, they get to write nice notes to each other {when they finish their work}. At the end of the day, we pass the notes out. I like the system so everyone gets a note.

Classroom DIY website: flip chute.  Use flashcards with questions on one side and answers on the other.  Students (from any grade level!) answer a question and insert the card in the top, and the answer comes out the bottom!  Fun center idea. Site comes with video instructions on how to create.

Snowball Fight...kids write 3 things about themselves on a sheet of white paper.  They do not write their names on the paper.  Wad it up and on your command, have a "snowball" (or baseball) fight.  At the end of 1 minute, each student grabs the nearest snowball and tries to guess who wrote it.  Would be great at the beginning of the year!
