The brilliantly colored "rainbow owl" pictured near this pin on this board, is NOT REAL. It lives NOWHERE ... it is a photoshopped, mythical critter ... an altered version of THIS picture of an ordinary barred (or "hoot") owl, a bird found in much of of No. America, primarily the eastern half. Please read the Snopes report attached to this by clicking the picture. Please do NOT pass on any picture of the so called "Rainbow Owl". Sorry I didn't know this earlier.

I saw a barred owl once just sitting there, wide awake in the middle of the day, just like this picture. I was scared that it would be pissed off to be awake at that hour of day and so I didn't stand and look at it too long. Incidentally, my boyfriend and I have this argument all the time: the name of the bird is "barred owl", not "barn owl". It is so named for the bars on its chest. I think there is such a thing as a "barn owl" but that is not this bird.

Beautiful, but will attack people and dogs. We have first hand experience. Fortunately he went after my husband & son before he tried to carry the chihuahua away.

Precise detail to blend with nature...only God! gorgeous

Barred owl, a mated pair lives near my home I hear and get a glimpse them occasionally.
