Hands on geography!! The teacher is reviewing latitude, longitude, hemispheres, continent and ocean names and cardinal/intermediate directions. Students use yarn for the Prime Meridian and Equator, and index cards with the names for the oceans. Then the class uses unifix cubes to mark all the spots they are responsible for being able to locate. Animal Research Folder: A Fact Finding Mission We're way into our animal unit and I'm needing to wrap things up and move on. We've spent time learning the words related to this unit and have been reading from nonfiction book and our text books about adaptations, food chains and ecosystems. Here is a triple circle map on the difference betweeen ecosystems, communities and populations.
Great idea to make vocabulary words a bit more interesting! Could adapt it from middle school to elementary grades...Would be a good idea for a word work journal even! :)
Here is a dictionary reference poster that our class made to help organize our thoughts about how dictionaries help readers and writers. I just copied a page out of our class dictionary on a color copy machine for the center.
