    Truth! So life changing!

  • Tee Will

I had so many resentments when I was using. Everything that happened in my life was someone else's fault because it certainly wasn't mine! Yet when I began to learn how to live a sober life I had to learn how to forgive. Not only did I have to forgive others I also had to forgive myself for the many selfish mistakes I'd made when I was using. I had to recognize that in every single resentment I held against anyone I had a part in it. I had done something which caused people to treat me in the ways they had. I needed to take responsibility for my actions. Once I understood why I did the things I had, (not just blaming my actions on the addiction but rather dug deeper), then I was able to more easily forgive what others had done to me. When I still couldn't forgive someone then I prayed for them and asked my higher power to help me. Forgiveness is extremely important to maintaining quality sobriety. Once you're totally capable of forgiving others and wanting good things for them then you will experience an indescribable sense of peace and freedom. I'm so grateful for forgiveness!

The power of forgiveness - true forgiveness - is one of the most amazing things to realize in this life. God forgives, so we forgive. We must. Otherwise, we give our power to someone else.
