The Joy Luck Club, presents the stories of four Chinese-immigrant women and their American-born daughters. Each of the four Chinese women has her own view of the world based on her experiences in China and wants to share that vision with her daughter. The daughters try to understand and appreciate their mothers' pasts, adapt to the American way of life, and win their mothers' acceptance.

The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan: Loved the book AND the movie. Strong female characters and struggles with culture clash.
The Joy Luck Club, I did not care for this the first time I read it. I saw the movie and then the book came more alive for me. The different cultures true....but "mothers" it seems are the same all over..Relationships that take love and understanding.
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. Four sets of mother - daughter relationships across time & continents. Heart-breaking & fascinating.
FICTION: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan Encompassing two generations and a rich blend of Chinese and American history, the story of four struggling, strong women also reveals their daughter's memories and feelings.
The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan. This is one of my favorite books!
Anything Amy Tan is worth reading.

The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde. Read this ages ago and its still one of my favorites! Absolute classic.
The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde "The reason I will not exhibit this picture is that I am afraid that I have shown in it the secret of my own soul"
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde "Il existe des péchés dont le souvenir, plus que l'accomplissement, fait le charme."
I read The Picture of Dorian Gray at upper secondary school and it made a profound impact. I love the wit of Oscar Wilde. This must be my favourite fantasy (& somewhat horror) story even though some people wouldn't count it as such.
"There were moments when he looked on evil simply as a mode through which he could realise his conception of the beautiful." - Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray Ch. 11
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. A novel that begins with vanity and ends in horror is alright by me.
The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde-- my favorite book currently. Love it and Wilde so much.

Say Nice Things About Detroit: (-) This trashy romance novel, disguised as a tribute to a struggling city, begins with the "homecoming" of a native Detroiter. Upon visiting, David discovers that his mother is sick, that his high school sweatheart has been shot, and that he has the hots for her sister. David moves home. After becoming pregnant by him, the sister also moves herself and son to Detroit. David, who has gotten a legal job, is investigating the murder of her dead sister.

17th century book cover angel painted on wood panel and elaborate embroidered frame. Collection: British Library
Antique, French,17th century painted & embroidered binding. The cover art includes an apparently unfinished depiction of Cupid with his bow & arrow, about to spear a burning red heart, with faint script painted above, announcing, "It does not __?__ me" (deter?) The finely embroidered frame, with couched metallic thread, also seems to be woven with silk or satin ribbon along the outside edge. Certainly a mysterious, personal & treasured volume of some form... perhaps love letters or poems... ~<3

Week 15/Book 15 The Last Letter From Your Lover: A Novel by Jojo Moyes Liked it *** 1/2
The Last Letter from Your Lover: A Novel by Jojo Moyes 4.5 stars The book follows the love story of 2 couples. One began years ago (60's) & is woven in with a modern day story. This book was great because you realize how one missed moment can possibly change a lifetime. The author did a great job of setting the societal expectations of the 60's. I was worried when the plot started out with a case of amnesia but it worked in the end. 2nd great book I've read by this author. 31/2013

The Kite Runner is the story of Amir, a Sunni Muslim, who struggles to find his place in the world because of the aftereffects and fallout from a series of traumatic childhood events. An adult Amir opens the novel in the present-day United States with a vague reference to one of these events, and then the novel flashes back to Amir's childhood in Afghanistan.
