THE MOVIE SETS OF MGM, The Nick and Nora Charles' living room had huge picture windows, a particular architectural feature favored by Art Director Cedric Gibbons, which he had in his own stunning Art Deco house in West L.A. The living room has a coffee table in front of the sofas, a new interior design feature at the time.
This magnificent set was designed for Broadway Melody of 1940. It was the largest musical set yet made by MGM. The effects of shimmering light is heightened by the polished floor and the silver streamers suspended from above, all reflecting the black and white set.
