Manatees (often known as Sea Cows) are one of Florida’s most endangered creatures & few remain in the local waters. An aquatic relative of the Elephant, they can grow up to thirteen feet & are often referred to as ‘Gentle Giants’. These animals are endangered despite the fact that they have little or no predators, this is due to the fact that they are often injured by boats or polluted waters.

Manatee- In my opinion, an animal FAR more important to save than letting drunk rednecks speed illegally in their boats, maiming and killing untold numbers of these gentle animals each year.

Manatee (ok, maybe not the prettiest creature but they just radiate so much gentleness when one swims up beside you)

Manatees (family Trichechidae, genus Trichechus) are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows.

Swimming with Manatees (USA). 'These lumbering, intelligent creatures seek Florida’s warm-water springs and rivers each winter, and many places offer the chance to snorkel beside them as they chew sea grass and nuzzle their children. Top of the list, though, is Kings Bay, near Crystal River on the Gulf Coast, where upwards of 500 may gather on a cold January day.'

The Florida manatee, or sea cow, was one of America's most endangered species ;)

Manatee, Awesome Picture. I instantly think... Barbra Manatee, you are the one for mee... (Veggietales, love it)

A beautiful Manatee, head and back layered with barnacle-like crust (James A. Sugar) - I adore these gentle creatures... They are listed as Vulnerable and are at greatest risk in areas, like Florida, where they come into frequent contact with humans and boats.
