The Sugar Queen - Sarah Addison Allen (unabridged audiobook) ★★★★☆ // One of my favorites by this author.

Powerful story of a midwife who dreamed of being a surgeon during the Civil War era, a time when women were not allowed into medical school. I learned about the Civil War from a completely different perspective than I've had before. Troops were sent out to fight with no training, no supplies, and no food. Physicians and nurses had no knowledge of true sanitary practices. This novel was fascinating!
