Cotton Candy Nebula - The nebula known as N11, complete with sparkly star clusters embedded in fluffy pink clouds of gas. This exceptionally energetic star-forming region, also known as the Bean Nebula, extends over 1,000 light-years in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Three generations of star formation have created shells of gas and dust which are being blown away by radiation from the newborn stars.

Smaller satellite galaxies caught by a spiral galaxy are distorted into elongated structures consisting of stars, which are known as tidal streams, as shown in this artist's impression. The new survey has, for the first time, shown the presence of such tell-tale traces of spiral galaxies swallowing smaller satellites for galaxies more distant than our own “Local Group” of galaxies. If you look up on some dark, clear night, you might notice a splash of hazy, white light arching across the sky. This is our Milky Way galaxy, where our own solar system rides on one of its spiral arms. Every star we see in the sky is part of the Milky Way, but a brighter center exists some 26,000 light-years away. The Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years in diameter and contains 200 to 400 billion stars.
Milky Way: The distinctively shaped galaxy in which our solar system is located. And at the very center is a Black Hole.
.we are so small in the grand scale of the universe, that tiny dot is the sun spinning around our milkyway galaxy
The Milky Way Galaxy is organized into spiral arms of giant stars that illuminate interstellar gas and dust. The sun is in a finger called the Orion Spur. Since we're inside this galaxy, this is, of course, a computer-generated image.

The image was captured on Nov. 27, 2012, and, according to NASA is one of the first views of Saturn’s sunlit North pole. Colors in the image were adjusted. The green indicates low high clouds, while the red coloring indicates high low clouds. The image was taken from roughly 261,000 miles away from the planet.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft has captured spectacular new views of an enormous hurricane churning around Saturn's north pole. The storm's eye, which is about 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) across with cloud speeds as fast as 330 mph (530 kph), resembles a deep red rose surrounded by green foliage in this false-color image.

Travel in Outer Space
This is an artist's concept of a gas giant planet orbiting a red dwarf K star (system name OGLE-2003-BLG-235L/MOA-2003-BLG-53L). The planet has not been directly imaged, but its presence was detected in 2003 microlensing observations of a field star in our galaxy. Gravitational microlensing happens when a foreground star amplifies the light of a background star that momentarily aligns with it.

The Hourglass Nebula, otherwise known as MyCn 18, is a young planetary nebula that is just 8,000 light-years from Earth. This image from Hubble was the first to reveal MyCn 18’s true shape to be an hourglass with an intricate pattern of “etchings” in its walls. It is thought that the hourglass shape of MyCn 18 may be the result of “the expansion of a fast stellar wind within a slowly expanding cloud, which is denser near its equator than near its poles.”The Hourglass Nebula was featured on the cover of the April 1997 issue of National Geographic. Its unique shape led the editors to say, “Astronomers looked 8,000 light-years into the cosmos with the Hubble Space Telescope, and it seemed that the eye of God was staring back.” The appearance of an eye at its center isn’t fully understood.
The Engraved Hourglass Nebula is a young planetary nebula. A planetary nebula is an old red giant star late in its life. It is conjectured the hourglass shape is produced by the expansion of a fast stellar wind within a slowly expanding cloud which is denser near its equator than its poles. The formation of the shape of the inner "eye" is not yet fully understood. JPL/NASA/ESA

The Hubble Space Telescope: A 25th Anniversary Photo Celebration - Hubble Space Telescope caught the interacting galaxies known as Arp 273. The larger of the spiral galaxies, UGC 1810, possesses a disk that exhibits distortion into a rose-like shape by the gravitational tidal pull of the companion galaxy below it, UGC 1813.
A rose made of galaxies This image of a pair of interacting galaxies called Arp 273 was released to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The distorted shape of the larger of the two galaxies shows signs of tidal interactions with the smaller of the two. It is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger one. #rose #galaxies

Uranus a beautiful planet indeed--7th planet from the Sun. It has the third-largest planetary radius and fourth-largest planetary mass in the Solar System. Uranus is similar in composition to Neptune...both are different chemical composition than the larger gas giants Jupiter and Saturn. For this reason, astronomers sometimes place them in a separate category called "ice giants"...
