This is an old photograph of a young African American lady posing for the camera on a Winter's day. There is nothing to identify this lady or when or where this photograph was taken. My guess is that this was sometime during the late 1920's or early 1930's.
ca. 1924 --- Alden Gay wearing an emerald and pearl necklace; pear-shaped emerald earrings; a diamond and emerald cabochon headband; bracelets of diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires; a square emerald ring; an oblong pin of pave diamonds and square emeralds; and a large white diamond ring, all by Cartier
A gal from the 1920's. I wish I could tell her that people all over the world were seeing her picture. I think she would smile.
bathing beauties / I'm coming to a conclusion that since this short of a skirt was UNTHINKABLE and it was illegal. It would be considered Indecent. SO: the large nutty BOW on a woman's head, was part of the swim-wear & how you could KNOW she wasn't breaking a law ... Notice how Dance oriented the bathing costumes were, or black with nautical theme. Never a print. There still was a modesty of not drawing attention to yourself.
