That's what our paperback copies look like! my husband saved his allowance as a boy to buy each one, and even though we have the nice leather bound editions, we still read the old paperbacks...

The Metamorphosis - A cracking novel by the Grandfather of Angst, Franz Kafka. Succinct study on alienation. I also think it's a metaphor for aging. Steven Berkhoff built a career on adapting it for the stage. He put all of Kafka's work down to Jewish guilt.
