Homemade balance scales made from recycled materials found around the home. Lots of hands-on fun for kids!
Two different styles of weighing scales that kids can make out of easily found materials- creating the scales is just as fun as finding things to compare!
Cub Scout recycling idea on how to make balance scales. Fun idea! We just used what we had handy, but there must be a bazillion different ways to make a simple device that you can compare the weight of two things with. The little red coffee stirrer with the styrofoam arrow made it easier for the kids to see which was heavier when it was a close call between the two weights.
Filth Wizardry: This site is FULL of materials you can make by recycling materials! Fantastic! Science and technology for younger kids (under 10's?)

Salt Science Fun - Simulated Geodes in Egg Shells. Little bit of Salty fun!
Quartz Crystal, Science Experiment
Science Experiment : Egg Geodes | The Happy Scientist - Making simulated geodes in egg shells with epsom salts! Sounds much easier than the Martha way, going to give this one a try first.
Egg Geodes Growing crystals in an egg shell Several people have written me lately, asking how to make simulated geodes in egg shells. Geodes are pockets of crystals that form in sedimentary and igneous rocks. They start as hollow spaces in rock that is porous enough for water to seep through. The water carries dissolved minerals, which are deposited in the open space, forming a lining of crystals. Most geodes contain quartz crystals, but they can also contain calcite, celestite, and othe
Marble roller coasters might be a great activity for teaching potential and kinetic energy in L2TT2L --- we could test it out in the STEAM Club. This is a great tutorial and teaching plan. . .
