Calm Down Jar. It is really easy to make. The goal is that when they are feeling out of control, they shake the jar, then sit and watch the glitter settle in the water. When the glitter settles, they can get up. This one is a really great technique to use in lieu of timeout.

A "Mind Jar"/"Time Out Jar"/"Calming Jar" Just shake the jar and the child has to watch the jar until the glitter settles (good time to practice deep breathing too!) Love it!!

Seen a ton of different calm jars/mind jars/alternative to time-out, but one of her readers suggested using an empty peanut butter jar since it's plastic. Genius!

Calm down jar: 1 TBS of pink glitter-glue w/ about 1 cup of hot water, + pink food colouring + a tiny tub of glitter. Shake when upset and watch glitter settle...child settle.

Mind Jar, Calming Jar, Time-Out Jar. We mixed 1 tablespoon of pink glitter-glue with about 1 cup of hot water, then added pink food colouring and a tiny tub of glitter. The glue adds viscocity so the glitter just slowly and gently swirls around, it takes about 5 minutes for all the glitter to settle. Original recipe uses glycerin, but also light corn syrup will add viscosity. Using “glitter paint” , about a teaspoon with one cup of hot water, makes it longer to completely settle.
