Yes, this is an animal. The Spanish dancer (Hexabranchus sanguineus - meaning "blood-colored six-gills") is a dorid nudibranch (sea slug). ... I think it's great color and design inspiration for a crocheted afghan.

Spanish Dancer. Sea Slug: There are many different kinds of sea slugs, all with different bright colors and patterns. Though they are in the same family as snails, they have little or no shell. They are poisonous and very few animals will eat them. The Spanish Dancer is one of the largest sea slugs reaching 15 inches long (40 cm). They are bight red and their swimming motion looks like the waving skirts of a Spanish Dancer. When threatened by predators, they shoot out an inky, acid spray .
The Spanish Dancer Jellyfish I've read that it maybe actually be a sea slug).
The Spanish Dancer Jellyfish is a tiny animal and probably poisonous.

The dumbo #octopus (Grimpoteuthis) is a deep sea animal that lives on the ocean floor at extreme depths of 9,800 to 13,000 feet. They are small animals, around 8 inches tall, and have a pair of fins located on their mantle—their namesake—and webbing between their arms. Grimpoteuthis swim often hover just above the seafloor looking for snails, worms, and other food.
Deep sea creature of the day! Dumbo Octopus, Grimpoteuthis, Depth 300-5000 metres... i found my sea spirit animal
The Dumbo Octopus may look a bit like Pikachu this animal has been named after another cute cartoon character – Disney’s Dumbo, because its two fins resemble oversized ears. Found in the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean “Dumbo” swallows its prey whole (mostly worms and small crustaceans). It only grows up to 20cm too!
Dumbooctopus - The octopuses of the genus Grimpoteuthis are also known as “Dumbo octopuses” from the ear-like fins protruding from the top of their “heads” (actually bodies), resembling the ears of Walt Disney’s flying elephant. They are benthic creatures, living at extreme depths, and are some of the rarest of the Octopoda species. They can flush the transparent layer of their skin at will, and are open ocean animals, unlike most octopi.
Dumbo Octopus It isn’t hard to guess after who the dumbo octopus is named after. He is named after his ear like fins, just like in the disney film Dumbo where a little elephant is named after his enormeous ears, with which he could fly! Dumbo octopus is a deep sea creature, which lives on great depths, around 300 and 400 meters below surface. Dumbo octopus belongs to the genus of Grimpoteuthis, a genus which consists out of fourteen other similiar species.

Leatherback sea turtle -1982 there were around 115,000 adult female leatherback turtles in the world; just 14 years later, there were only 20,000 to 30,000—and the population has continued to plummet.
Leatherback sea turtle is the earth’s biggest turtle. It's also critically endangered. According to the IUCN, there are only 20,000 to 30,000, the population has continued to plummet. Problems include theft of its eggs by humans, illegal hunting & nesting-habitat loss due to beach development, & the erosion of beaches due to global climate change. Leatherbacks sometimes die after ingesting plastic debris found floating in the ocean, which they mistake for food such as jellyfish.

Sea Pens (cnidarians belonging to the order Pennatulacea): Sea pens are grouped with the octocorals (“soft corals”). They were named after their feather-like appearance reminiscent of antique quill pens. Sea pens may rise up to 6.6 ft in some species and are sometimes brightly colored. Rarely found above depths of 30 ft, sea pens prefer deeper waters where turbulence is less likely to uproot them.

This Malaysian pygmy seahorse (hippocampus bargibanti) proves that seahorses are masters of camouflage The eggs then hatch in the male seahorse’s brood pouch for about two to four weeks, depending on the species. The female does not withdraw at this time, but visits her mate every morning to continue the courtship by wheeling around, changing colour and holding her mate’s tail. This support fosters a monogamous relationship, at least during one reproductive phase

Reasons to love Sea Horses: 1. Seahorses are beautiful, delicate creatures. 2. Seahorses are loyal and mate for life. 3. The female deposits eggs into the male’s small pouch, and then leaves. The male has the babies. (Now only if guys had the pleasure of giving birth instead of us women...haha)
Amazing - Male seahorses give birth to babies :) Seahorses are the only animals in the entire animal kingdom in which the male, not the female gives birth and cares for their young! The female seahorse deposits the eggs into the male's small pouch like a kangaroo where the eggs are fertilized and where the baby seahorses grow until it is time for them to be born.
Seahorse Photograph by George Grall It's true that male seahorses never play catch with their children or help them with their homework. But they do outdo human dads on one count—by giving birth. Seahorses are among the only animal species on Earth in which the male bears the unborn young, a unique trait in these fish that inhabit tropical and temperate coastal waters worldwide.

that it’s the MALE seahorse that gets pregnant and carries the babies. According to Alison Scarratt, the curator of fishes at the Baltimore Aquarium, “Seahorses are the only kind of animal in the world in which it’s the male that gets pregnant.”
that it’s the MALE seahorse that gets pregnant and carries the babies. “Seahorses are the only kind of animal in the world in which it’s the male that gets pregnant.”
Seahorses are unique. Unlike most other fish, they are monogamous and mate for life. Rarer still, they are among the only animal species on Earth in which the male bears the unborn young. Male seahorses are equipped with a brood pouch on their ventral, or front-facing, side. When mating, the female deposits her eggs into his pouch, and the male fertilizes them internally. He carries the eggs in his pouch until they hatch, then releases miniature seahorses into the water.
