Slap Words! Put our vocabulary words on different colored sheets of tag board. (That way if a word gets mixed up with another stack, it's easy to spot.) Words cards lie on top of table face up. I call out a definition. Person to find the word first slaps their hand down on top of the card, then takes the card and puts it to the side in "their pile". Person with the most words wins!
This is a cheap and simple way to practice plurals with students: write the noun on the sentence strip, fold the right hand corner to cover up whatever gets taken away on the reform of the word, then write the new ending that makes the word plural.
Sight word activities: Another fun way for kiddos to do word work for Daily 5 or just practice. She printed off her Play-doh sight word cards on orange paper and then had children form the words with seasonal erasers that she bought at Target's Dollar spot. Cute idea.
Writing Center Activities: Sight word shells are a fun way for students to practice writing sight words, as well as forming letters properly. Students are to write the sight word printed on each shell in the sand using their finger.
