The Best Story - one of the first books read each year in Writer's Workshop. It's great for teaching where writer's get their ideas. In the end, the main character learns that the best story comes from your heart. After reading it, give each student a paper heart and they fill it with words/pictures of the things/people they love.

Teaching My Friends! - Heart Map for Writing: It's on writing about the things you love. You draw a big heart and then fill it with all those things. The teacher does one to model, and then your friends create their own. It is writing topic inspiration for your friends.
