Turkish Textiles, Cushion Covers, Tulip, Cushions Covers, Turkey, Velvet Cushions, Century Literature, Ottomans Textiles, Scutari Velvet
The V acquired its first velvet cushion cover, or 'yastik' as they are called in Turkish, in 1852 and by 1900 had built up a collection of sixty-two. A few more were added in the 20th century creating a representative collection in both date and quality. In late 19th and early 20th century literature such covers were sometimes called 'Scutari velvets' which led many people to assume they were woven in Scutari, or modern-day Shkoder, in Albania whereas the reference was really to Scutari

Iznik tiles are characterized by their elaborate, intricate designs and shades of blue, turquoise, red and green. They are an original way to bring vibrant color and character to any space. Islam forbids the portrayal of living creatures, so most İznik designs are floral or geometric: The tulip represents God and the rose represents the Prophet Muhammad. The name comes from a small Turkish town that was the center of a flourishing ceramics industry during the Ottoman Empire (500 years ago).

Tulip Breaking Virus by wikipedia: The virus infects the bulb and causes the cultivar to "break" its lock on a single color, resulting in intricate bars, stripes, streaks, featherings or flame-like effects of different colors on the petals. The drawing is of Semper Augustus, the most expensive tulip sold during the tulip mania in the Netherlands in the 17th century. #Flowers #Tulips #Tulip_Breaking_Virus
