Master the Splits With These 9 Poses

If you've always wanted to do a split, you need flexible hips and hamstrings. Practice these nine stretches, and you'll soon be on your way. For more stretching options, do check out our video with yoga poses that will help you master the splits.

    I don't agree that we all need to be able to do the splits, but most of us do have very tight hip flexors and hamstrings from our posture and work habits (seated for long hours, whether commuting, studying, working, or watching tv). Working gradually into hip stretches like these can really increase your quality of life.

    How to regain flexibility -- or in my case, gain it. I've never been able to do the splits. This is my newest goal in life. I WILL be able to do the splits by the time I'm 30....hopefully.

Yoga for the Splits: Print this out and practice these poses everyday to gain flexibility for the splits. Start by holding each pose for 30 seconds on each side. Work your way up to 1-3 minutes as your muscles start to open up. When you’re ready to try the splits use a block or pillow under your front leg for support until you feel ready to go without.

To be able to do the splits... 8 stretches to get ya there. Even if this non-flexible girl (aka me) will never be able to do the splits no matter what, good stretching never hurts :)
