Hush, Hush...Okay went into this book SO PUMPED...Honestly this book was one of the worst YA books I've encountered yet. I don't understand the hype. If you want a good angel book read Angelfall by Susan Ee. That book rocked my world

A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer ... heartbreaking but also very inspirational. One of my most favorite books.
A Child Called It: One Child's Courage to Survive. By Dave Pelzer. First book in a 3 part series of a boy that survived nearly fatal child abuse. The second book is about his time in foster care, and the third is about becoming the adult he is today. Very sad book but worth reading!!!
Such a sad book, but a very good read. A Child Called "It" (Dave Pelzer, #1) Another emotionally difficult people - but a hope filled book. Proof of Nature over Nurture
A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer... One of the most incredible stories I've ever read! The entire series is worth reading
One of my favorite books. This book is a true story about one of the worst child abuse cases in California's history. It came to an end on March 5, 1973 when Dave Pelzer entered foster care. Dave begins his incredible story as an abused child with his rescue in part one of a series, A Child Called "It". Calling this book a "page turner" doesn't give it justice. Easy to read, but difficult to comprehend how any mother could treat her child this way.
A Child Called "It"--worth reading. sad but true story. I've read all of Dave Pelzer books.
A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer. An amazing book and an even more amazing person.
A Child Called "IT": Dave Pelzer. One of the saddest books I've ever read...

The Shack: Wm. Paul Young: 9781609414115: Amazon.com: Books - book club Nov 2012
Probably one of the most life-altering books I have ever read! Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.
The Shack- Amazing Book! Very deep. Book club did several years ago.

The Diary of a Young Girl is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The family was apprehended in 1944 and Anne Frank ultimately died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war, the diary was retrieved by Anne's father, Otto Frank, the only known survivor of the family.

The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank. My favorite book of all time. I read mine til it fell apart.
The Diary of a Young girl is a very good and factual book. The book is the diary of jewish girl Anne frank, at the age of 13 years. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank Challenged at the Culpeper County, Va. schools (2010). Initially, it was reported that officials decided to stop assigning the book due to complaints that it includes sexual material & homosexual themes. The edition published on the 50th anniversary of Frank’s death won't be used in the future despite the fact the school system did not follow its own policy for complaints. One of my all time favorite books! The setting is the beautiful country along the Rapid River near Middle Dam on the Lower Richardson Lake near Rangely. We camped with our children on that Lake for many summers, so the whole story of Louise Dickinson Rich's life there is especially enjoyable for me.

Written with humor and color, author Louise Dickinson Rich gives us a delightful look into life in the Northwoods of Maine in the 1940's. She paints the characters, the scenery, and the happenings well.
In her early thirties, Louise Dickinson Rich took to the woods of Maine with her husband. They found their livelihood and raised a family in the remote backcountry settlement of Middle Dam

Production has begun on the long-gestating Nick Nolte/Robert Redford adaptation of Bill Bryson’s memoir, which recounts his misadventures as he attempts to hike the Appalachian Trail, despite “years of waddlesome sloth” with his old pal Katz, a man even more ill-prepared for the effort than he is.
Hiking the Appalachian trail is on my bucket list (ok, ok, some of the Appalachian trail, not all of it). So I read this wonderful account by Des Moines native Bill Bryson. He has a wonderful, sometimes sarcastic, sense of humor and it is not only a "visual" walk of the trail, but also interweaves the interpersonal relationship of his long time friend who joined him. I've read several of Bryson's books, this is my favorite.

Favorite Childhood, Books Movies, Katherine Paterson, Elementary School, Childhood Book, 5Th Grade, Children S Books, Favorite Books, Time Favorite
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - was the No. 28 most banned and challenged title 2000-2009 The book was banned for profanity and it's use of "Oh Lord." it is about two introverted children who create a magical forest. I would read this with my older students if I was teaching 5th grade perhaps and have them write a journal for each couple chapters and go in depth of the main characters.
"Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson, heart breaker- still one of the best children's books of all-time. [My favorite-est book I have ever read. So my mom taught third grade at my school. I was in her class. She read us this book and from that day on it has been my most favorite book I've ever read. BTW: I loved Josh Hutcherson before he was Peeta. I had a secret crush on Jesse (Jess) when I was younger... :)]
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson | 15 Classic Children’s Books That Have Been Banned In America When: 1996 Why: The book was banned from several classrooms in Pennsylvania on accounts of “profanity, disrespect for adults, and an elaborate fantasy world that might lead to confusion.” The book has also been banned by other schools for its use of the phrases “Oh Lord” and “Lord.” I was read this book in school by my 5th grade teacher.

" The Sandcastle Girls" by Chris Bohjalian---Set against the backdrop of the 1915 Armenian genocide in Turkey, this tale is told alternately by a Bostonian woman in Turkey to provide aid to the refugees and her granddaughter in the present day. Bohjalian's novels are true to human nature and rich in setting. One of my new favorite authors! --Nancy Ehas, Director
The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian ~ was on my to read list. Very good. One of my favorite authors
Not only do I think The Sandcastle Girls is Chris Bohjalian’s best book yet, it’s also one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’d go so far as to call it a masterpiece. It’s the only time I can ever remember finding myself reading every paragraph twice . . . it’s just that beautifully written and moving (and brought me to tears more times than I can count).
The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian | Fiction | Parallel stories of a woman who falls in love with an Armenian soldier during the Armenian Genocide and a modern-day New Yorker prompted to rediscover her Armenian past. | Find it at PCLS: http://catalog.popelibrary.org/polaris/
'The Sandcastle Girls' by Chris Bohjalian: A historical love story inspired by the author's Armenian heritage.
'The Sandcastle Girls' by Chris Bohjalian: A historical love story inspired by the author's Armenian heritage finds early 20th-century nurse Elizabeth Endicott arriving in Syria to help deliver food and medical aid to genocide refugees, a volunteer service during which she exchanges letters with an Armenian engineer and widower.
As in Jodi Picoult's The Storyteller, war and genocide form the backdrop of this thought-provoking novel from an author known for examining hot-button issues in small town settings. But The Sandcastle Girls is nevertheless a bit of a departure for Chris Bohjalian, combining as it does a present-day setting with a historical love story (inspired by Bohjalian's Armenian heritage) set in 1915 Syria, during the Armenian genocide.
The Sandcastle Girls, Chris Bohjalian. Pinner writes: "Depicts the Armenian genocide & 1 contemporary novelist's quest to uncover her heritage. A beautiful, frightening & unforgettable read. In 1915, a young American delivering aid to Armenian refugees befriends a survivor. Years later, their grandchild unravels their secret & the hopes that kept them going in the war. Traveling between Aleppo, Syria, in 1915 & Bronxville, New York, in 2012."
