    Penny loafers. The good thing about these shoes were you could upgrade by putting in dimes, nickles, quarters, etc. as the economy changed. My father liked that I would always have money for a pay phone, if I needed it.

Still love penny loafers, but in high school in the 80s mine had DIMES in case I needed to call home on the PAYPHONE!

penny loafers The fad was to use a penny from the year you were born in the little slot. I wore mine until the soles gave out. Then my Uncle Benny Throm resoled them in his shoe shop and I wore them until I couldn't get my feet in them anymore!

When a penny meant something. If you were lucky, sometimes two would fall out. Yellow and orange were the best flavors.

Phone booth. A place to sit, a door to close, and usually an intact phone book, as well!

Penny candy...there was a mom & pop store on every corner in our neighborhood. The candy was in a case behind glass, and as you told the clerk what you wanted, he would put it in a small brown paper bag. Fireballs, dots, Bazooka bubblegum and squirrels were a few of my favorites! Remember how hard it was trying to decide what to buy with your nickel?

LOL, these were my favorite toys to play with when I was little! I would create homes for them with the Fisher Price house and furniture along with those blocks that came in a blue square, orange cylinders, yellow have moon rectangles and red retangle blocks! I would love to have them today!!!

This book reminds me of my dad. Everytime I was sick and had to go to the doctor and get a shot, he took me to the BX and I got to buy a book. They always gave shots when I was a kid. :(

41 years...never knew they were real words...Grandma Foster used to drive us places and sing silly songs to us...when I saw this I remembered that I, too didn't know this song had actual real words! She sang it over and over to us and I thought she was just singing gibberish to a tune...but I laughed today when I found out it actually has words!

I got a Penny Brite doll after doing my brothers paper route as payment. I was so excited. I still have her. :)
