Nine-year-old Oskar Schell has embarked on an urgent, secret mission that will take him through the five boroughs of New York. His goal is to find the lock that matches a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11. Amazing book. Amazing movie.
Book Club February
One of the best non-fiction books I've ever read. I bought this book and read it while I was in Savannah Georgia on vacation. Probably one of the most surreal reading experiences I've ever had.
Savannah, Worth Reading, Midnight, Books Worth, Gardens, Movie, Evil
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil-- another pinner says: The movie scarcely did this brilliant book justice. It's the true story of a murder that became the scandal of Savannah, Georgia. It's worth reading for the descriptions of Savannah alone (which also happens to be one of my favorite cities) add murder, intrigue and colorful characters and it makes a great read.
Savannah, GA -- "Bird Girl" statue by Sylvia Shaw Judson, from John Berendt's "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," which is forever an iconic image of Savannah for me.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: a Savannah story by John Berendt. Non-Fiction Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense?
Bonaventure Cemetery Savannah, GA.Bird Girl statue made famous by the movie “Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil” from book by John Berendt. Book based on actual event. The statue has been moved to a museum to protect it.
Bird Girl is a sculpture made in 1936 by Sylvia Shaw Judson. It achieved fame when it was featured on the cover of the 1994 novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Mike bought me a small replica when we went to Savannah. One of my favorite decorative pieces at the Sugar Shack.
Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, GA - Statue of the Bird Girl. With the popularity of the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt, the statue had to be moved to the Telfair Museum of Art. Originally sculpted for a family in Massachusetts.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story by John Berendt. I finally got through this book. I didn't like it.
"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt - I also loved the movie, as John Cusack and Kevin Spacey are two of my favorite actors. "I might be leaving here tomorrow, but you're leaving here tonight."
A Child Called "It"
Worth Reading, Dave Pelzer, Child Called, Books Worth, Children, Now, Favorite Books
a child called it Sad story, but well worth reading. Many abused children go without help, touch a child's life and make the difference. "Be the voice"
A Child Called It: One Child's Courage to Survive. By Dave Pelzer. First book in a 3 part series of a boy that survived nearly fatal child abuse. The second book is about his time in foster care, and the third is about becoming the adult he is today. Very sad and heart grabbing, but worth reading
No matter how many times I will read this, it will probably always be my favorite book. It's such a good story, but then again it's so sad to read. It makes me sick knowing that there is parents out there that do cruel things to their children because they've have a bad day so they come home and torture their children for no reason.
A Child Called "It"...so sad.. You will never look at your children the same! I've only read parts of it because it was so disturbing to my heart and I couldn't handle it!! :(
A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive BY: Dave Pelzer- very sad but such a great book!
A Child Called "It"...so sad.. I have my children read these books when they think I am abusive by making them do dishes and laundry
A Child Called "It" - Dave Pelzer loved this book it was so sad i read it in one day i couldn't put it down
A Child Called "It" ... a sad trilogy of truth and hurt.( A must read for ANYONE who works with children! ~RB)

Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. Great book and an interesting insight into the amish culture. Really keeps your attention and keeps you hanging until the end
“If you're afraid of everyone leaving you, what do you do?" Make them stay." And if you can't do that, or don't know how to?" Ellie shrugged. "I don't know." Yes, you do. In fact, you've done it. You leave first," Coop said, "so you don't have to watch them walk away.” ― Jodi Picoult, Plain Truth

While Little Women suffers a bit from Sex and The City Syndrome (everyone thinks they're Jo/Carrie, nobody wants to be Beth, Meg, Amy/Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte), it is still worth reading, especially for Laurie (a.k.a. Christian Bale in the movie): "Someday you'll find a man, a good man, and you'll love him, and marry him, and live and die for him. And I'll be hanged if I stand by and watch."
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ~ Little Women was made into a movie MANY times: 1918, 1933, 1949, 1994; as well as a TV series & mini-series: 1970, 1978, 1987 "Little Men", a sequel to this book!
I loved watching the movie when i was little girl and finally read the book when I was teenager. Little Women, or, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888), American. Illustrated by Carla M. Burd. First published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. Pictured is 1926 edition. John C. Winston Co. Front cover is green cloth with illustrated paper onlay.

2015 After reading half of this last summer, and then putting it down... I picked it up again and read the whole thing. Great premise, and some interesting challenges. 7: an experimental mutiny against excess Jen Hatmaker
Worth Reading, Books Worth, Reading List, Experimental Mutiny, Excess, Life Changing
Jen Hatmaker - 7 An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess (book to read). This explains it beautifully. Life changing. She said in her blog: "...We learned that the easiest place to stay comfortably off-mission is in the western church, where we had been doing a lovely job of serving the saved and ignoring everyone else. ". Wow. That hits home.
Seven. 7. will (could) totally change your perspective, and maybe your life! SO good. 7 An experimental mutiny against excess - Jen Hatmaker
7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker. A challenging, thought-provoking, laughter-inducing, powerfully good read. If you don't want to change a thing about your life, you shouldn't read this book.
7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess was a very convicting read for me. Jen Hatmaker, along with her husband, kids, and group of friends (all participating in various ways) spent 7 months abstaining from areas of excess. Jen touches on the categories of food, clothes, spending, media, possessions, waste, and stress during the 7 month experiment.
7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess - This is moving to the top of my must read list!

The Book Thief: Markus Zusak My very favorite book this year! I listened to it on Audible and the narration was superb. Great book about WW2 for teens too.
*****The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Definitely a book worth reading. This is a look at an inhumane time period, viewed through the eyes of, and narrated by, Death. As Death is haunted by humans, you'll be haunted by this narrative.

The Book Thief --one of my favorite books! Never thought i'd cry so bad, definitley worth reading
The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. #ReviewBook #TheBookThief #MarkusZusak

The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, is one of the very few sets of books that should be read three times: in childhood, early adulthood, and late in life. I own the entire series and its amazing! My children will grow up on this too ;) Anything by C.S Lewis is worth reading honestly
"The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis is a total requirement for any library. Quite possibly my favorite books ever.
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis **** In brief, four children travel repeatedly to a world in which they are far more than mere children and everything is far more than it seems.
Narnia is a fantasy world created by C. S. Lewis as the primary location for his series of seven fantasy novels for children, The Chronicles of Narnia. The world is so called after the country of Narnia, in which much of the action of the Chronicles takes place. In Narnia, some animals can talk, mythical beasts abound, and magic is common.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis is a series of seven books about another world. Lewis wrote this series for children so that the story would give them a 'pre-baptism' into the Christian doxology.
