Very cool, fun art shading project from Art With Mr. E.; he's an elementary art specialist. His blog is full of awesome art projects that address different concepts.

my uncle used to do the same thing for me. Art With Mr. E: Line Design w/Shading - 4th Grade Very cool, fun art shading project from Art With Mr. E.; he's an elementary art specialist. Try this with your kids (but I think grown ups would enjoy this too).

cool art idea. Wavy line across the middle of the page. On that line, draw eight dots that should be different lengths apart. You need a dot relatively close to the edge of your paper. Start to connect the dots. You can not cross over any lines. However, you can share a line as you begin going up and out. The lines should be taken off the edge of the paper as you extend outwords. Some sections may be pinched off as other sections grow larger...and that is totally ok.
