I would use this activity to help students get an idea of where they actually are in regards to the bigger idea that they live in a house, on a street, in a city, in a state, in a country and so on. This is helpful for students to actually get it so that it makes sense on their level. You could also do this on a smaller scale first of the school so they get an idea before the large scale project that this is.

The kiddos love this story extension activity from this charming little book by Leo Lionni! Also, a great way to experience color mixing hands on!

Have kids vote on classroom decisions and back their vote up with a reason why. Great for teaching about opinions and evidence.

After learning about the different levels of government, the students create their own "vote for me" projects, including why they should be president and what they would do.

This would be a great fall activity with a prize for the winner. This could be used for science or during morning circle as a class activity. This could also be at the math center.

Comprehension 2- Plate sequencing activity. The teacher will read a story to the students aloud. After the story, the teacher will hand students pre-cut images of events in the story. Students will place the images in correct order. The book should be available for reference if students need help during the activity.

This works for almost any grades! Great idea to teach social responsibility! Give kids a "Secret Service" mission. Tell them for 1 week, they have to do something for someone else without "blowing their cover." A fun, interactive way to get kids serving others.
