Jan Showers | Blog | GLORIOUS FALL Metropolitan Museum of Arts Traditionally, there are wonderful museum shows in the fall. This fall I cannot wait to visit the THE ROOF GARDEN COMMISSION at the Met in New York---I was not able to go in the spring---just missed the opening, so will go before it closes November 2. Dan Graham’s installation along with Gunther Vogt’s landscape architecture should be extraordinary.

When Tomás Saraceno’s Cloud City opened on May 15th, perched on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it seemed more like an unwitting lightning rod than a piece of installation art.

Tomás Saraceno’s “Cloud City” is a example of fun-house formalism for the roof garden of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It consists of a 28-foot-high aggregate of 16 interconnected 12- and 14-sided polyhedrons the size of small rooms that are made of polished steel and clear plexiglass. By being reflective or see-through, they greatly complicate and even discombobulate the experience of the structure and everything around it. Visitors may navigate stairs and platforms within the sculpture that are elevated up to twenty feet above the Roof Garden. The Empire State Building - This building is one of the most icon buildings in all of New York City and is the reason New York State is referred to as the Empire State. Vacationers can travel to the top of this building for magnificent views of New York City. There is a fee for the ticket but it is well worth it. Would love to just visit NYC... I already know I could never stay there.. Empire State Building - New York City
I've always had an irrational fear of New York City. But now it's on my list of places I want to visit.
The Empire State Building, New York City - Constructed in 1931. The observation deck is 399.4m/1,310ft above ground.

John Singer Sargent Madame X (Madame Pierre Gautreau), 1883-1884 The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Added January 12, 2012. John Singer Sargent was born 156 years ago today. He is truly one of my favorite artists, his portraiture is magnificent. As a portrait photographer I aspire to show people's beauty and personality.

Arthur Hoppock Hearn Fund, 1916 (16.53) | This portrait was first seen by the public at the Paris Salon of 1884 causing a “succès de scandale” for the artist’s indifference to conventions of pose, modeling, and treatment of space. #OneMetManyWorlds
