St. Rose of Lima. T.O.S.D., (April 20, 1586 – August 24, 1617) The 1st person born in the Americas to be canonized by the Church. She wanted to become a nun, but her father refused this. Out of obedience she entered the 3rd Order of St. Dominic, remaining in her parents' home. In her 20th year she donned the habit of a tertiary & took a vow of perpetual virginity. She wore a heavy crown made of silver, with small spikes on the inside, in emulation of the Crown of Thorns worn by Christ. YBH
