Brigadeiro is a typical sweet ofBrazilian cuisine. Brazilian cuisine varies greatly by region, reflecting the country's varying mix of indigenous and immigrant populations. This has created a national cuisine marked by the preservation of regional differences.[364] Examples are Feijoada, considered the country's national dish;[365] and regional foods such as vatapá, moqueca, polenta and acarajé

Brigadeiro (Portuguese for Brigadier; also known in some southern Brazilian states as negrinho, literally "blackie") is a simple Brazilian chocolate bonbon, created in the 1940s and named after Brigadier Eduardo Gomes, whose shape is reminiscent of that of some varieties of chocolate truffles. It is a very popular candy in Brazil and in Portugal and it is usually served at birthday parties, and also as dessert.

Brigadeiros (Chocolate Truffles) - Brigadeiro (Brigadier) Eduardo Gomes was a Presidential candidate in Brazil in 1945. Some women would cook candies and serve them during their fundraising events. There was a funny slongan: “Vote for the Brigadier who is handsome and single”, during his campaign. The brazilian women gave the name 'Brigadeiro' to the candy served to pay tribute for the candidate. The guests loved the treat and soon people started asking: “Where is the Brigadier’s candy?”
